History of Albatros

Albatros, emerged from the same cigar factory, was founded on September 17th, 1932. At that time the initiators could not have imagined what kind of a choir Albatros would become: a male voice choir with members from a wide region, a choir which can be considered being the national summit. A highly demanded and valued ensemble.

The high level of the choir is also the merit of conductor Anton Stulp. This professional is paying a lot of attention to the technical aspects of singing, such as pronunciation, dynamic, breathing technique etc. Also the system of acceptation of new members influences the maintaining and improvment of the musical level. Improvement of quality is also achieved by giving singing education to several choir members.

For this special purpose a teacher was appointed who gives lessons on a weekly basis. Prospective members have to do a short training path. On the basis of some exercises a small committee, among which the conductor, critisizes if sufficient vocal talent is available. In such case a trial period of six months starts. After that follows the final membership. The new member then also receive the choir dress. For this a financial contribution is asked. The prospective member is attended during rehearsal by a mentor.
